Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
SENCO – Helen Taylor htaylor@bluecoatprimary.org
The Bluecoat School is committed and passionate about ensuring ‘Achievement for All’, through setting high aspirations and providing a high quality teaching and learning environment, as a priority for all. However, we acknowledge that some children will require additional support, for part or all of their time at our school.
We have a dedicated teaching team who strive to provide the best provision for children with special educational needs and disabilities:
Our SENCo closely coordinates with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). She works with the children, families, staff, Academy Councillors and external agencies to ensure that all children with special educational needs and disabilities are supported. The SENCo also liaises with the CMAT Primary SEND leads, Mrs Becky Dear and Mrs. Kathy Bacon.
This enables us to identify and offer specific support for all of our SEND children at the level which helps them to make progress from their starting points. We use a variety of teaching styles, resources and differentiation to ensure that all children can access learning in the classroom.
Where children have individual plans they are delivered in a way to ensure they understand the relevance and purpose of learning activities and experience levels of progress that bring feelings of success and achievement.

As per the SEND Code of Practice (Section 6.79), academies must publish information about their arrangements for identifying, assessing and making provision available for children with SEND. Our information report can be downloaded, or viewed below:

Disability Access Statement
With the introduction of the Equality Act 2010, The Bluecoat School, in common with all premises offering access to the Public in England and Wales, assumed a mandatory obligation to provide easy access to all parts of its premises for people with Disabilities, wherever reasonably practicable. To meet the requirements of the legislation, we have ensured a number of ramped/level access points throughout its premises and a lift to the upstairs classrooms. Our accessibility plan can found below:
The SEND policy can be viewed and downloaded here.
Any parent wishing to complain about the support being offered to their child with SEND please follow the procedure in the SEND Information Report.
